Overview of the Initiative

Purpose

    • To allow IDS member libraries to ship ILL materials to libraries nationwide via IDS’s UPS contract.

Benefits

    • Would streamline IDS shipping for member libraries.
    • Would provide shipping at less expensive IDS rate.
    • IDS would become a “one-stop shop” for a libraries ILL shipping needs.
    • Would eliminate penalty for members accidentally shipping to non-IDS libraries nationwide.

 

Timeline

  • Effective April 1, 2015, all public libraries and intermediate units are permitted to ship to libraries nationwide.  In addition to those academic libraries participating in the pilot project, a select group of academic libraries that previously expressed interest in nationwide shipping are permitted to ship nationwide.  Below is a list of academic libraries permitted to ship nationwide on April 1:

Immaculata University Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

    • Effective July 1, 2015, all academic libraries will be allowed to ship to libraries nationwide.

 

Project Details

 

    • IDS members will be permitted to use their IDS UPS account to send ILL materials to libraries in all 50 states as well as Puerto Pico according to the timeline above.
    • Shipping nationwide is voluntary.  Member libraries should be aware that participation could move their library into the next membership tier for 2016. 
    • Address corrections and shipping penalties will be assessed a service charge as stated in the IDS Manual.
